Tropical Suar Wood

Tropical Suar Wood

Found in most tropical rain-forests worldwide, the Suar tree, or Monkeypod, produces a relatively light but dense, durable Wood much sought-after by furniture manufacturers for its lasting beauty.

A fast-growing tree with a thick trunk, Suar is a member of the pea family. Also known as Rain Tree for a tendency to fold up its leaves in the presence of rain, the typically golden to dark-brown coloured Suar-Wood features criss-crossing and interlocked grains that allow it to retain moisture and fend off termites as well as most forms of decay.

Resistant to warping from even the hardest London rain, Suar-Wood is often crafted into luxury items intended for frequent use such as large dining or conference tables, dining chairs, stout benches, and structural building materials. An abundant species, the Suar tree is not in danger of extinction, so long as it is harvested sustainably, upon which we insist.

To protect your new Art Classic Indonesia Suar-Wood furniture from unpredictable English weather, apply wood-oil using a soft cloth twice yearly – more frequently if the item is placed outside or in direct sunlight. Avoid alkaline soaps and dry dusting, as these tend to scratch and damage the Wood’s lustrous surface, dulling its inherent beauty.

Congratulations – you’re the proud owner of a piece of luxury Suar furniture from Art Classic Indonesia
